We are a hobby kennel located in Chilliwack, British Columbia Canada. All our dogs are raised in our home and are part of our family. Our dogs go everywhere we go, hikes, trips, and outings around town. They are well loved and well known in our local community at the local hot spots and shops.
Our passion for the breed came through loving our first spaniel Bella. She lived to the age of 15 years old and was my husband’s dog before we married. When she passed, we knew we wanted to add another American Cocker Spaniel to our home as it was very empty without her sweet presence.
I quickly learnt that it would take some hunting to find a reputable breeder and I was ever so thankful when we found one and welcomed Phoebe into our home in 2021. I would find myself travelling over 12 hours to bring her home and add her to our family, but it was worth knowing she came from a fantastic breeder. Our family fosters rescue dogs, and it was very important that we not support puppy mills, backyard breeders or those who participate in body mutilation without veterinarian intervention. Procedures such as tail docking and ear cropping are banned within British Columbia as of 2016. Many veterinarians across Canada no longer want to perform these procedures for cosmetic/ non-medical purposes. This unfortunately has resulted in many breeders doing them without pain intervention in their own homes. All our puppies will not be tail docked or have their dewclaws removed. We love that Phoebe and Stella have their tails, which are almost always wagging!
We welcomed our spunky Stella into our home in the spring of 2022 and at this time I had learnt even more about the breed and importance of health testing before future breeding. Phoebe and Stella are half-sisters from the same dam and breeder who resides in Northern British Columbia. All our dogs receive regular veterinary care such as annual vaccinations, preventative care like flea and deworming treatments. They are well loved; some would say spoiled but we would not have it any other way.
As of August 2023, we welcomed Odin, our future stud into our home. He is your typical puppy with plenty of energy and a very sweet demeanour. Odin hails all the way from Boise Idaho, comes from champion lines and is ACK registered. Odin recently became certified as a St. John's Ambulance Therapy Dog in August of 2024.
All our dogs or sires for breeding are sourced from reputable breeders and registered with either the CKC or AKC. Dogs sold or advertised as purebred within Canada legally must be registered with the CKC, all our dogs and future litters are or will be. CKC status does not guarantee that the breeder health tests their dogs or even takes good care of them. Therefore, it is important for us that all our dogs, once over the age of 2 years old have their hips, eyes and genetic screening cleared before they are bred.
Our reasons for starting our own breeding program are to ensure that this wonderful breed is not only preserved but receives due attention to health testing and temperament screening that each dog deserves. We were unsuccessful in finding a more local American Cocker Spaniel breeder in the Fraser Valley who regularly health screens for known issues within the breed or does not tail dock. Thus, we wanted to help other families with our same ethical expectations welcome a pup into their own lovely homes.
Phoebe has also received clearance on OFA testing for hips, elbows and eyes and is also PRA clear. Phoebe is also a certified St. John’s Ambulance Therapy dog since October of 2022. For those interested in being added to our puppy wait list please complete an application here. Stella has also received clearance on OFA testing for hips, elbows and eyes. She is a carrier of PRA but will never be paired with a male who is (none of our males are carriers).
Tommy is our current stud dog, he has fathered the last two litters in our breeding program. He lives locally as a family pet in a guardian home here in Chilliwack and has also undergone all appropriate health testing for his eyes, hips and elbows. Tommy is a very sweet and well temperated boy who is well loved as a family dog. Tommy is also PRA clear.
Odin will undergo OFA health testing for his eyes, hips and elbows in the spring of 2025. He has had pre-screening on his eyes which were good in May of 2024.
Future plans include conformation showing for Phoebe, Odin & Stella in the coming months and we look forward to seeing them in the show ring.
